This chapter book follows Lolly Rachpaul, a 12-year-old boy living in Harlem. He lives with his mom where they are still grieving the death of Lolly's older brother who was recently killed in a gang-related shooting. Lolly continues to struggle, being pressured to join a gang, and when he is beat up and robbed, the urge to join one is even stronger, because perhaps it would be able to protect him. Lolly is gifted huge bags of Legos by his mom's girlfriend which he loves and uses them all the time. The Legos are a metaphorical device, where Lolly is able to build his path. He later creates a Lego city at the community center. This is able to give him a kind of escape in his chaotic life.

This chapter is targeted towards middle school, as some topics may be unsuitable for younger students. There are also some metaphors like Lolly creating his own way with the Legos that may not be understood by younger students. This book highlights the issues many African Americans have in their neighborhoods, not wanting to join a gang but also being practically forced to gain one for protection. This is another theme that may not be suitable for younger students. It is important to address the issues that Lolly and other people like him endure, as becoming more familiar translates to being more comfortable. This story would also aid in students' understanding of African American neighborhoods and some of the aspects of city living.
