Lost and Found Cat: The True Story of Kunkush's Incredible Journey

This story follows the journey of a white, fluffy, cat named Kunkush. When Kunkush's family needed to flee from Iraq, they knew they had to take him with them. They carried him all the way from Iraq to Greece, but when they arrived to Greece in a raft, the journey across the water scared Kunkush so much that he runs away. The family is forced to continue their journey without their beloved cat. Kunkush is eventually taken in by locals who bring him to the vet and care for him. They wonder if this is the missing cat that belongs to the Iraqi family, who have been posting all over social media, searching for him. They are eventually able to locate the family, who now live in Norway, and Kunkush is brought there to be reunited with his family.

The targeted audience for this book is probably anywhere from kindergarten-5th grade, as it is a picture book, but is a bit longer. This book can bring light as to what exactly a refugee family goes through and what they are often forced to leave behind. This can relate to students whose parents, or maybe even themselves, had to flee from their native country and adopt a refugee status. But it can also enlighten those who don't know all the struggles refugees may have had to go through. It is an inspiring story showing that literally anyone, even a cat, can make their way home somehow. Sometimes they just need the help of strangers. This also shows the sad reality some face when forced to leave their native country due to violence.
